Principal's Report
Students have 4 weeks to commit to a strong finish as assessment tasks begin. At this time of the year, it is essential students consolidate their learning to the best of their ability. We have various celebrations in Week 10 however, everyday attendance is critical for the next 4 weeks.
2024 nominations for leadership positions were distributed last week and applications are due next Monday, 13 November. All year we have been suggesting, discussing and providing opportunities for our current Year 5's to demonstrate their ability to take on roles of leadership. We look forward to well thought out applications.
The Disco on Thursday was lots of fun and behaviour was generally excellent. Thanks to Mrs Packenham and Mrs Carey for the games. Thanks to our Leisa, Lisa, Ash-Lee, Katrina, Emily and Lisa for providing dinner. Thanks to Lisa and Alan Bechly for the smoke machine and disco lights. And well-done Angela Devlin for gate control. It was important for all to stay safe and have a wonderful evening, so we can have the event again next year. It was nice to see a good role up of students for learning on Friday.
Swimming notes will go home this week. The cost is subsidised by the Sporting Schools grant. Payment is essential for participation. Our swimming carnival is on Monday 27 November. There will be events for the whole school to participate in and we will need some help with the Staff/Parent vs. student relay! Families welcome.
Please join us for our Remembrance Day service this Friday at 9 am.
Have a great week.
Regards
Mrs Jo McCormick
Principal and class teacher.
Prep - 2 News - Mrs Packenham
Over the past fortnight in the Prep-2 room we have practised Rainbow Facts, represented 2 and 3-digit numbers, investigated what happens to different materials when they are wet, drew the beginning, middle and end of familiar stories, and practised correctly writing the letters a, g and d just to name a few activities!
On Day for Daniel, we participated in the 2023 Child Safety Lesson. The focus of this lesson was on consent. The concept of consent was explained in child-friendly terms of another student wanting to borrow equipment or share a toy, and extended into interactions with adults such as an adult wanting to give a child a hug, hold hands or have a child sit on their lap. The lesson also explained body clues that students may notice in themselves or others when something makes them feel uncomfortable. It also emphasised the point that an adult should never ask a child to keep a secret and that children should report this to one of their Safety Helpers if this happens. We also revised who our Safety Helpers are. For further information please see the Day for Daniel website.
Last Thursday we celebrated National Outdoor Classroom Day! We embraced the beautiful weather and spent almost 3 hours of our learning time outside! This included reading, phonics, spelling, maths and science. Check out the photos below of some of our activities!

Year 3-6 News - Miss Fisher
English
Students have worked hard drafting and revising paragraphs about sewage treatment. They turned dot point notes into sentences, using the different conjunctions we have been working with. When revising their drafts, students reworked the structure of sentences, used more precise and sophisticated vocabulary, as well as removing unnecessary words. The results of their efforts are on display in our classroom. Please feel free to come in and view our efforts!
Science
We continue to enjoy hands-on tasks in our Science work. Check out the photos of our 3s and 4s investigating the tensile strength of different materials. 5s and 6s, in their quest to understand the different between physical and chemical changes, investigated the impact of depriving candles of oxygen. We are coming to grips with how candle wax changes to a gas!

“I liked the confidence with which our band performed at the Moore Soldiers Memorial Hall last Saturday. Thanks so much to our big crowd of supporters as well. We looked great and sounded great. Thanks to all the Mum’s and Dad’s for bringing everybody out to play. I know some of our performers were a bit nervous but you really came through and the feedback from the community was great. I am so impressed with our music team.”
“Bridi learned a new hack this week for playing F major scale on her Clarinet plus another for getting the high notes more easily. Henrietta made a major breakthrough by achieving something she thought was impossible by reaching a high C on her Trumpet. Tijana continues to do battle with the high notes on her Level 3 scale of Eb major and has struck the first blow with outstanding fingering. These notes are really hard and high. Our Year 6’s are tackling some high school level music. Charts like, ”Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Mango Tango”. Our students are fearless and will have a go at anything. Our next performance event is Friday November 24 when we combine with Toogoolawah SHS, Toogoolawah SS and Linville SS to do “Carols in the Park” at McConnell Park, Toogoolawah. Free sausage sizzle at 6pm. Starts at 7pm.”

CONTAINERS FOR CHANGE
Containers are now being picked up by EE Waste Toowoomba. They have requested that we don’t crush the containers as their machines need to read the bar code. Containers will be picked up fortnightly. Wine and spirit bottles are now included in the recycling.
PLANT STALL
The plant stall did really well over the holidays. Thank you Tony, Amanda and Pippa for doing such a great job. It has begun to get really hot so it is a challenge to keep the plants watered.
We have some beautiful BAY LEAVES, dried and packed ready to use. We have to keep them out of the heat so they are in the office. ONLY $2.00 A BAG.
