Principal's Report
Only 15 days to go and so many activities as we head towards the end of the school year. There are many permission forms, RSVP's and dates originating with our various activities. Please stay on top of these dates.
Staff and students are busy finishing tasks and completing assessments for end of year reports. This is a busy time of the year which can sometimes be overwhelming. As we head for a joyous celebration of the year, student progress and graduation, let's keep vigilant with respectful communication, routines and a strong finish for 2023.
The traditional last week of the year "Movie Day" has returned thanks to Cr. Helen Brieschke. Students will head to Alexandra Hall to see the Disney movie, 'Wish'. Mrs Karreman will be the officer in charge along with Mrs Philp, Miss Gallagher and Dr. T. Other staff will be preparing for 2024. This is our first paperless excursion. You can now approve on your phone using QParents. An invitation was resent last week. Please be resilient with the signing up and permission will no longer need to be printed and signed.
Report cards will be sent home on the last day of school, 8th December. Year 6 students will ring the school bell after parade to end their official time at Harlin State School. Please join us to form an arch for their departure.
$28 was sent to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. Thank you to families who participated for your support.
Cressbrook News has offered to supply your booklist. Orders need to be in by the 15th December, 2023. Please look out for 2024 booklists this week. We have changed the Year 5 & 6 lines needed for exercise books. This will ensure student handwriting can continue to develop. Unused books will be sent home this week so you can adjust your order.
It's time to return library books. Please assist your child/ren to return books next week.
Candidates presented excellent speeches for 2024 Leadership positions this morning. Our 2024 Leaders will be announced on Wednesday, 6 December at the Awards and Christmas Concert.
Community members commented on our Remembrance Service on Friday. Well done seniors and Ms Fisher. The conduct of our students and reverence shown for the day was appreciated. The P-2 art work portrayed the importance our staff and students place on this commemoration. Thank you for your attendance.
Have a great week.
Regards
Mrs Jo McCormick
Principal and class teacher.
Prep - 2 News - Mrs Packenham
In Weeks 6 and 7, the students participated in two transition mornings to prepare for 2024. I am always amazed at how much social, emotional and academic growth students make from their own prep transition days through to the end of Prep! During the transition mornings, Preps and Year 1s participated in a range of fun activities centred around the Very Hungry Caterpillar and 5 Little Speckled Frogs, while the Year 2s ventured up to the senior room. There they worked with Miss Fisher on English tasks. Next Tuesday will be our last transition morning for the year.
Aside from the transition mornings, the Prep-2 students have been working hard and chipping away at their final assessment tasks. We have been completing Rhythm and Movement for Self-Regulation (RAMSR) activities at the beginning of the day to settle our bodies and prepare for learning. At the start of the last session, we have been cooling down our hot and tired bodies, by lying in the cool, darkened classroom and listening to an episode of ‘Music for the Dreaming’ from ABC Kids Listen.
Check out some photos from the last 2 weeks below.

Year 3-6 News - Ms Fisher
The last fortnight has been busy, as usual. Science has continued to be exciting …
Year 3s and 4s have investigated the insulation properties of different materials. They wrapped different materials around cans of warm water, then monitored the temperature change over twenty-five minutes. Students recorded results in a table and then graphed them. They made suggestions about how to improve the fairness and accuracy of their tests, which showed some great thinking.
Year 5s and 6s performed tests on how to increase the rate at which a soluble tablet dissolves, with different groups choosing a different variable to change. The group who chose to dissolve their tablet in cordial showed extreme patience waiting … and waiting … and waiting for it to dissolve.
Students acknowledged Remembrance Day last Friday. As part of their studies with Mrs Mac, students have been designing symbols to mark the day. They displayed their artwork on the concrete – how great are these?!
Thankfully, we are almost finished with our assessment tasks for this year. It’s heartening to see the effort – and enthusiasm – students are putting in to completing tasks!

“Our Concert Band is busily preparing for our next performances which are:
- Friday November 24 “Carols in the Park” McConnell Park Toogoolawah. A combined performance with Toogoolawah and Linville performing our new carols and our old hits of 2023.
- Wednesday December 6 Awards Night where we will play our two best songs
Our Year 6’s have already starting working on high school level music in preparation for Year 7. This will make the change over much smoother. “Mango Tango” is sounding good already. 2024 is looking great with at least 4 new students joining Instrumental Music.
“Band members, please practice your “Silent Night’ and “Little Drummer Boy” for Friday night at the “Carols in the Park” at McConnell Park in Toogoolawah. Please wear your festive clothing and bring your instrument, folder and a peg for the wind. Free sausage sizzle at 6pm, starts at 7pm. We will perform two sets of two songs during the program. Our last performance will be Awards Night on Wednesday December 6. We will perform “Marching Drum” and “I Like Jazz”. Please hand in your folders and school instruments to Mr. Smith that night.”
