Principal's Report
Dear School Community
Our School Review has concluded and we await feedback to create our Strategic Plan for the next 4 years. Thank you to parents who were able to talk to Jenny and David. Both reviewers game some very positive interim feedback and were overwhelmed with the welcome they received, the maturity of our senior students, the ability of students to articulate their learning journey and the calm and positive tone throughout the school. The results of the review are expected before the Easter break.
We have a few more dates for this term and next. Please take the time to stay updated via our newsletter, Facebook page and digital sign.
Cross Country will take place on the last day of this term, Thursday 28 February. Our Easter Hat parade will be first at 9 am with a quick change into blue or red, ready to battle out for the champion house team. Competitive runners will be selected to attend the High School for a cluster competition, where selections will take place for the Darling Downs team.
One more golf lesson remains and we have some talented golfers. There are opportunities on a Saturday morning at Woodford Golf Club with children’s lessons and there are also after-school lessons at Toogoolawah Golf Club. The lessons at Toogoolawah start next week.
In the next few weeks, we will start on summative assessments for end of term results. In the interim there are many monitoring tasks students are completing every day. Please ensure your child has the best chance to demonstrate their understanding, by ensuring attendance is a priority.
Please consider attending the P&C AGM followed by a general meeting, this Wednesday. The more parents/carers we have attend, the greater the variety of skills and knowledge that can be shared. The P&C is very open to new ideas and more help to continue the support they provide for every student.
Have a great weekend.
Mrs Jo McCormick
Principal and class teacher.

English
We are learning to write sentences using “because”, “but”, and “so” to link ideas. Students have been writing sentences about Pigeon Wants a Puppy. They REALLY love this story!
Science
Space is great, until the teacher loses the moon... the 3s and 4s did an outdoor activity looking at relative sizes of the Earth, Sun and Moon as well as the distances between them. Everything was fine until Ms Fisher dropped the Moon (a peppercorn) in the grass. And when the sun blew away, we decided to call it a day.
Last week P-2s made their own constellations and this week investigated seasons. Students sang a song about what happens in the different seasons and then added activities - and their birthdays - to a chart for each season.
Maths
We are continuing are focus on number with lots of hands-on activities and games. A special mention to our Year 4s who are grappling with fractions on numberlines. It's been awesome to see their enthusiasm for the activities - and also singing our song!
HASS
The Prep-2s have been learning about family traditions and celebrations. We learned that our family members were not all born in the same place and that different families celebrate different events. We had lots of fun discussing and drawing our birthday traditions!
The 3s and 4s have been learning how Australia’s First Peoples lived before European contact. It was fascinating to learn about trade between the Yolngu and Macassans from the 1700s till 1907. A big shout out to Eliza who was very engaged in the lesson and asked many clarifying questions that sparked class discussions!

Year 3-6 News - Mrs Mac and Ms Fisher
Year 6 Leaders had a great time at the GRIP Leadership Day. We had 3 students take the stage in front of 300 other students. It was a nice way to start the Leadership journey as or seniors in 2024. There was a lot of discussion on sacrificing time to be a leader, and this is evident in the time students are spending providing alternative activities on a Monday and Wednesday for other students. It is also necessary to prepare parade during the afternoon session on a Friday. Leaders should expect to give up their own time on occassions. Behaviour of our seniors at Grip was exemplary. Thanks to Mrs Cubit (TSS) for a bonus icecream at that store with the big M on our return journey.
Currently, students are working on Transformation in maths - rotation, translation and reflection (flip, slide and turn). We have started creating product packaging labels for products using the CANVA app. We have to be mindful of the language devices and features required to meet the GTMJ (Guide to making judgements) assessment rubric.
Students are reading every day with Mrs Philp. We have a very small group working on tasks at home. This is not compulsory, however we have no students who do not need to work on their reading and number facts. Both reading and number facts are our focus for 2024.
Our weed eradication project is showing a very slow demise of the Mother of Millions weed. At this stage, fire seems to be the best method. We are checking and creating data every Monday and Friday.
Year 5's will be taking part in NAPLAN in Week 8. We have done some practice sessions to know how to negotiate the on-line components.
Students have renovated the old green fridge with the class acronym. Let's hope the old fridge keeps working!!

Harlin SS P&C
We would like to recommence tuck-shop again on Fridays. To do so we are looking for someone to coordinate the roster each fortnight. Unfortunately, it is the students that miss out if we can’t find a volunteer.
Our next meeting is our AGM on Wednesday March 6th at 3.30 pm. We are looking for lots of parent/carer input and there may be positions in our P&C Executive to fill. Please come along.
