Principal Report
Fabulous results from the Toogoolawah Show with a 1st for our Rosella jam, carrots and Cos lettuce. Students had some great results: Bella and Eliza with their knitting, Penny with her photos, Reece and Harlan with their Lego, Blake with his chainsaw racing, Hugh and Tilly with their horse events and April and Henrietta with their paintings. This was complimented by a wonderful band performance and congratulations to Blake, Eliza, Kacey, Cleo, Penny, Tilly and Hayley. Thank you again, Mr Smith and Ms Graham for giving up your Saturday morning to showcase our student talent. The Toogoolawah Show needs our students to continue the tradition and heritage with not only their attendance, but also entering the competitions.
We also take the chance to thank our exceptional staff who go above and beyond to give your child every chance to succeed, grow in confidence and extend their thinking. They are truly ‘gems’ and make every child feel loved and appreciated. We wish our staff a well-deserved break and an opportunity to recharge batteries ready for Semester 2.
We thanked Mr Rowland, our cleaner, on Monday with a banana cake. Thank you, Ken for your early morning starts and keeping our school clean and tidy.
One of our goals is to increase the reading expertise our of students. The Men’s Shed have helped to extend this beyond the school grounds with a stunning 'Little Library' at our front fence for all to share. We thank the Toogoolawah Men’s Shed for their efforts and expertise.
The NAIDOC celebration at Toogoolawah State School on Wednesday was a successful day, full of activities for student participation. It was an authentic day of carefully designed activities to celebrate our local First Nations People, the Dungibara. Thank you, Dr. Beth Tailby and Kayla Lee, for your weeks of organisation. Thank you also to Mr Hutchinson and Toogoolawah State School for hosting the event.
We have our Seniors Day on the first Wednesday of Term 3. Please encourage your family to attend. It will be a lovely celebration of the knowledge, expertise and talents of our seniors and grandparents. We are so blessed to have seniors willing to share their skills and stories with our students. The Caboolture Car Club will have their vehicles on display and the Qld Police Pipes and Drums Band will open the morning. Both Alkira and Aloka Aged-care Homes will join us once again.
The Benarkin to Linville Bike Ride is in the second week of Term 3. Please use the holidays to ensure bikes are roadworthy. This is not a holiday and students not riding are expected at school for instruction. Alternatively, you may like to take the opportunity to teach your child to ride a bike and join in the school activity. Remember, helmets must be of an approved Australian Standard. We look forward to parents and grandparents joining in on the ride.
You will find Student Report Cards in your child's bag today. Please take the time to read the results and comments with your child. We have had a 99% response to our Parent-Teacher-Student meetings in Term 1 and some completed in Term 2. You are partners in your child's learning and we can only make it the best it can be, with your support. If you would like to catch up in regards to student report cards, please email our teaching staff. If there is an issue or you need some assistance, do it now. The end of the year is too late.
Thank you to our parent helpers this term. Your commitment helps us to provide exciting learning and the extra-curricular activities gives Harlin SS its own identity.
Wishing students have a safe and enjoyable break. See you back on Monday 8 July.
Mrs Jo McCormick
Principal and class teacher.
Prep - 4 News - Mrs Packenham and Ms Fisher
Students have worked hard to show what they have learned at school this term. The tri-aramas our Year 3 and 4 students produced were incredibly exciting! They have enjoyed learning about one of our unique Australian animals – the platypus. Our science unit on living things has been a lot of fun and it was fantastic to see camels at the NAIDOC Day at Toogoolawah.
Well, that’s a wrap for the P-4 classroom for Semester 1!
We wish everyone a fabulous holiday and we are looking forward to more great learning next term!
Stay safe!
Year 4-6 News - Mrs Mac and Ms Fisher
Our 5-6 students have put in a mighty effort to complete assessments ready for the break.
Our assessment tasks were a great reminder about catching up if you are absent or sick as when it came to finding essential information, some was missing from student books. We have an understanding that catching up is a student responsibility, while we make sure handouts are in desks and ready for the return to school.
Heartening to see students completing tasks with few reminders and done graciously. This demonstrates a willingness to take responsibility for learning. "If it's going to be, It's up to me! Excellent student behaviour again at the NAIDOC celebration. Our seniors set a very high standard for students from other schools to follow. Year 5-6 have worked very hard in the last few weeks of term and I am very proud of their efforts. Most students were great in our garden this morning as we took some free time to spruce up the front garden.
We hope our senior students have a great holiday.

Readers Cup Team
Harlin and Linville schools entered two teams in Readers Cup this year. Congratulations to April, Brax, Hayley, Henrietta, Ollie, and Penelope on completing the challenge, along with Raven and Mahalia from Linville!
Five rounds of ten questions about five books – with thirty seconds to write answers for each question – made it an exciting competition against twelve other teams from the Somerset and Lockyer districts. Answer sheets were collected after each round and scored by a panel of judges. Kate Temple, the author of one of the featured books this year, facilitated the quiz questions, answered student questions about the life of an author, and even played a game of heads and tails with the students.
One of our teams Round 4! Well done April, Penelope, Raven, and Mahalia. Thanks to Henrietta for organising the teams to give all students the best chance of success.
Thanks also to Ms Thomson from Linville for being co-pilot on the bus and supporting our students at the event.

"Our band did a fabulous job at the Toogoolawah show recently. They jumped in and performed so well with Linville and Toogoolawah school bands in one huge band. I was so proud of how confident our kids were. It can be really scary performing in a different place with heaps of different kids and so much going on but our kids were super confident and even the beginners seemed to be totally calm and professional and played our two songs really well. Great work, everyone."

Athletics Day
Congratulations to the Dingoes for a great performance in winning the House Athletics shield for a second year. Fantastic weather which was complimented by great sportsmanship. Parents again dominated the Tug o' War and the Star Relay. For the first time, Brisbane Valley has won the Lockyer Zone Overall Cross Country Trophy. It must have something to do with Harlin SS students now being eligible to compete for the Brisbane Valley! Well done, Penny and Reece.
Congratulations to the following students who have qualified for the Interschool competition at Toogoolawah State School on Friday, 19 July:
