Principal Report
On Tuesday we celebrated Support Staff Day. Mrs Philp, Mrs Enks, Mrs Carey and Mrs Guy were treated to a wonderful array of home cooking and treats for lunch. Our leaders presented cards and a thank you. We are lucky to have such dedicated staff who go far beyond their role descriptions to make learning enjoyable at Harlin State School.
The end of term is near and we are counting down for a well-deserved rest. Our whole school community is looking forward to an illness free Term 4. Many families have been hit with a recurring virus and some students have been very ill. Let's hope the holidays provides time to recoup and re-energise.
Tomorrow, staff will be moderating maths tasks from V9 of the Australian Curriculum. Our second session is reading and the last session is an update of our CPR Qualifications.
This Sunday, we remember and celebrate our wonderful fathers and grandfathers. In particular we pay respects to our dads who are no longer with us in person, but forever in our hearts. We hope you are all able to celebrate this day and that our dads love their t-shirts. Thanks to Mrs Blacklock, Mrs Wendt and Mrs Blackmore for your help.
We have lots happening in these last few weeks. Please make sure you have the following dates in your calendar.
This Thursday, from 5.30 pm we have our second bush dance. Last year it was lots of fun for the whole family. Students have been learning dances as part of their Physical Education. I look forward to seeing you all again. The evening starts with a barbeque and an order form has been sent home for you to return with payment. We finish the evening with a supper and would appreciate you providing a plate to share. Thank you to the Weare family for manning the barbecue this year.
Next Friday, we are heading off to TSHS to see the musical, Matilda. Transportation will be by private transport and the TSHS minibus. If you are attending and able to take your child to TSHS, please notify Mrs Enks. There will be no need to return to school as the event will finish at approximately 2.45 pm.
The Year 5-6 School Camp intention to attend note was due back today. If you have not returned this form please do so on Monday.
The wonderful U8's Day is on Tuesday 10 September at Toogoolawah State School. The theme this year is 'Connecting to Culture through Play'. We will be providing transportation to and from school. This is a half day only and students will be returning to school for instruction.
The Year P-4 Sleepover is happening on Thursday 12 September. Students participating are to return to school at 5.30 pm with bedding and requirements. Once parents have said a farewell, we will have a sausage sizzle, games and a movie. Parents who drop off siblings the next day are asked to pick up bedding and belongings not required for the school day. A note detailing 'What to bring" will be sent home with students.
Also, on this day we have our instrumental students performing at Toogoolawah SS at 12 .30 pm.
Parent/teacher/student interviews will be available in the second week of Term 4. Please keep an eye out for a request form. We were very pleased with your Term 2 response and look forward to sharing your child's educational journey once more.
Our 3-6 Ball Games team performed admirably at the recent competition. Although students did not receive any trophies or medals this year, our sportsmanship was excellent. Students learnt a great lesson about teamwork and the ups and downs of competition on any given day. There was not one event where our students did not give 100%.
We are now practising soccer and netball as Year 5 & 6 students prepare for Somerset Cup on Friday, 13 September. This is a highlight Year 5 & 6 and students always look forward to the day. We are awaiting confirmation of a bus for transportation of students to TSHS. Students will be supervised by Mrs Enks.
And don't forget Crazy Hair Day this coming Wednesday!
Have a great weekend.
Jo McCormick
Principal and Class teacher.
Support Staff Day
Thank you to Mrs Enks, Mrs Philp, Mrs Guy, Mrs Carey and Mrs Carroll for all that you do to make our school fabulous!
Prep - 4 News - Mrs Packenham and Ms Fisher
The P-4 classroom has been humming along. We’ve been madly measuring – length, mass, capacity, and temperature. 3s and 4s have completed their measurement assessment. Woohoo!
In English, students are working on their responses to The Twits, and to help them build physical stamina for their writing, they’ve been strengthening their upper bodies with different activities. See our wall and window colouring!
P-2 students are making musical instruments for their Science studies on sound, and they’re looking fantastic! 3s and 4s will perform a science investigation next week to finish their study on heat for the term.
We hope all the dads out there love their shirts and cards, and that they enjoy their special day on Sunday!

And even more measurement!
Year 4-6 News - Mrs Mac and Ms Fisher
Students have begun a new unit of maths. Year 6 are working of the order of operations and solving problems based on the four operations. Year 5 are using factors and multiples, solving simple problems, and using estimation and rounding. Our year 4s joined us on Wednesday where we found the factors of a block of chocolate with 32 squares. Yum!
Mr and Mrs Twit have some very unfortunate pay backs coming their way as crafty authors try to show, but not tell the latest horrid pranks. Exploding cigarette lighters, a shower of purple body paint, collapsing stairs, growing door jambs and a snake in the bed, sounds just what Mr and Mrs Twit deserve.
In their study of light, students have been learning about the law of reflection. Students succeeded where Ms Fisher could not! They managed to reflect a thin beam of light off a mirror to show that the incoming angle is the same as the outgoing angle – the law of reflection in action. Once their investigation was done, they played an animated game where they were challenged to position mirrors to direct light around a maze. Our students were VERY competitive!
Our House Captains will now be responsible for organising netball and soccer training in readiness for Somerset Cup.
Students had lots of fun designing a shirt for Father's Day.

Jill Boucher - R u ok, any day?
Hello, my name is Jill Boucher, and I am the Student Wellbeing Social Worker at Harlin State School once a fortnight on a Thursday.
R U OK ACTION Day is on Thursday 12th September. We are going to have a fun time learning how to be good friends to each other with the help of Healthy Harold.
What is the Student Wellbeing program?
It is an initiative that sees Social Workers employed in schools to provide emotional support, counselling and skill building with children.
What can a Student Wellbeing Social Worker do?
A Student Wellbeing Social Worker can work with children who experience social and emotional challenges that might interfere with their learning in the classroom or their relationships at school.
Some common issues I see include anxiety, self-esteem issues, fears, relationship challenges, difficulties with managing emotions, low mood (sadness) or any issue that might be causing a student distress or problems. Our goal is to help students (and families) create fulfilling and rich lives for themselves, now and in the future.
How can you arrange to see me?
If your child would like to see me, or you think it would be helpful, please speak with the principal or classroom teacher regarding making a referral.
