Somerset Cup, Band performance, U8's Day, Bush Dance, Matilda, Sleepover, Support Staff Day, Book Week, Father's Day T-shirts, Ball Games, Athletics, Kops in Kilts and Senior's Day! How did we pack in all of that extra-curricular activity and work diligently within our curriculum?
Our term 3 results are pleasing. We can see from year-to-date data, varying levels of improvement not only in subject areas but also in handwriting, organisation, listening, and a willingness to take on some responsibility for learning at home with reading and number facts. Attendance continues to be a goal for many students - and that will bring even greater results.
As we wind down for the term, it is once again time to acknowledge our staff who have provided and supported 'Enjoyment in Learning'. Thank you to parents and our school community who make it a priority to let our staff know how much their 'extra' work is appreciated.
This year we see a major camp for Year 5-6. COVID and then costs thwarted attempts last year to head to Canberra. Undefeated, staff looked at The Great Barrier Reef as an alternative. After months of work, we have just had our first parent meeting to outline the itinerary and facilities students will enjoy. The work of a small band of P&C members to ensure students in Year 5-6 have a momentous camp this year has been amazing. Faced with a challenge, they have found innovative ways to raise funds using local and regional connections. It is a great example of resilience for our students to admire. Well, done so far and congratulations. Please reward these efforts by organising a table of 8 for the Trivia Night on Saturday 19 October.
Our Year P-4's enjoyed a sleepover last night. Behaviour was excellent. There were a few little ones who had to be woken at 7 am for breakfast. Comments ranged from 'great to cool'. Students made their own breakfast, washed dishes and packed up. Thanks once more to Mrs Packenham and Ms Fisher, who will recover over the weekend!
Harlin SS P&C has been successful with a Gambling Community Grant of $94, 489.35. Thanks to Katie Buckley for collaboration on this project, on behalf of the P&C. There was a focus on the early years with outdoor play equipment, a new shed for the oval, equipment for the permaculture garden and funds to reinvigorate our indigenous artwork. The current sports shed will now house the new outdoor play equipment. As we move towards greater use of the oval with our new playground, planting of good shade trees will be started on the current small playground in readiness for the new equipment.
On behalf of staff, we wish students and families a safe and relaxing break. We look forward to seeing you return on Monday, 3oth of September.
Warm regards
Jo McCormick
Principal and class teacher.
Prep - 4 News - Mrs Packenham and Ms Fisher
We’ve made it! The end of term has seen a flurry of activity in the P-4 classroom. Students have completed their work on The Twits and finished their Maths assessment tasks.
Our P-2 students have created their instruments as part of their Science work this term. Check them out!
3s and 4s completed an investigation into the transfer of heat for their final Science task for the term. They put a different number of heated weights in cups of cold water and recorded then analysed the temperature changes. Awesome!
As we’ve been completing assessment tasks, there has been time to squeeze in some grammar games! We’ve had some fun building sentences.
On Tuesday this week, our P-2 students had a blast at the Under 8s day at Toogoolawah! See a selection of our photos from the day.
We wish everyone a safe and relaxing holiday, and look forward to seeing everyone back refreshed for Term 4!

Year 4-6 News - Mrs Mac and Ms Fisher
Year 6 Students went to Toogoolawah High School's transition day and got to meet some of the staff. It was a fantastic day filled with activities run by Miss Masters.
All students created their chapter for The Twits. We have some great work and some pretty nasty pranks. Mrs Twit suffered greatly with an exploding lighter, a shower of body paint, a snake in her bed and switched pills. Equally, Mr Twit copped a few nasty pranks too. The head of his monkey was ripped off! Luckily, it was a stuffed toy but enough to give him a huge fright. Most students took the time and effort required to revise and then edit their chapter and have been rewarded for their efforts.
Our senior students represented HSS at Somerset Cup today. We have been training for soccer for the past few weeks. The day of competition allows our senior students to mingle with those students who will be Year 7 next year. They came a credible second overall. And Jasmine won her bet with a goal kick! With the new facilities at TSHS a suggestion for next year is volleyball and basketball.
There is still an expectation of nightly reading. Our reading results are mostly on target when compared with expectations. We have new books and magazines in our library to support reading. Times tables take effort and time. We spend a lot of time on number facts and students are encouraged to take some responsibility for learning these at home.
If it's going to be, it's up to me!
All the best for a safe and relaxing holiday, ready for Term 4.

MATILDA
Students enjoyed watching the musical Matilda at Toogoolawah SS. It was lovely so see some of our past Harlin SS Students showing of their amazing talent. The things you get to do when you get to high school. So exciting!
Jill Boucher - R u ok, any day?
A lot can happen in a year, a month, a week. Whether it’s your friend, family member, colleague, partner, or teammate, the people you care about go through life’s ups and downs every day.
By having regular, meaningful conversations, you build trust and normalise talking about what’s really going on, so when the people in your world find themselves struggling, they know you’re someone they can talk to.
So whilst R U OK? Day on Thursday September 12 is our National Day of Action, we encourage you to Ask R U OK? Any Day of the year because a conversation could change a life.

Auslan - Dr. T
Hello all and welcome to the end of Term 3
Our students have been busy developing language and preparing for Term 4 assessment. We have been finetuning our fingerspelling and gaining new signs every lesson. We play various games so we can practice our skills and add these to conversations. Harlin SS students are progressing so fast that we are running out of lessons to teach! Students are to please practice fingerspelling for 10 minutes everyday for homework. This way we can move on from the basics. We are also using Depicting Signs to tell stories. Depiction is used to provide context to a conversation. It is a very difficult skill to develop however once again Harlin SS students are smashing it!
Next term we will focus on assessments. We are testing their ability to follow instructions. To do this they will be sent on a treasure hunt around the school. Should be a great term.
Have a great break everyone. Be safe and stay Deadly
