Harlin Bush Dance Thursday 31 Aug.
Principal's Report
We had a lovely day on Wednesday, viewing vehicles of all descriptions. Experts, Mr Geoff Smith and Mr Ben Karreman answered student questions, and provided lots of interesting information on the history of their Harlin based businesses. 12 vehicles from the Caboolture Regional Car Club came in all shapes, sizes and colours. Mr Steve Dixon brought along the vehicle from the rural fire service. We showed appreciation to our guests with a morning tea supplied by staff and a bbq lunch.
Welcome to Mrs Melinda Gallagher who joins us as a teacher-aide in Prep - 2. Melinda is covering Mrs Enks days and has made an easy transition into our school.
We had a chat to senior students about the need to show appreciation, after we had some disappointing grumbles at the Incursion. A considerable amount of preliminary work was done over the holidays and before and after school. BBQ supplies were picked up on the weekend and Tuesday evening. Students need to reflect on how various experiences and lunches are organised by staff and how to act if they want these opportunities in the future.
This Friday is Bullying. No Way Day! This day reminds us all on our goals of inclusion, acceptance and safety, every day. Bullying takes many forms and can be delievered in many ways. We will be reviewing our High 5 strategy and our new POOCH problem solving process. Bullying can continue when it is not called out. We would encourage any continuing problems with relationships at school to come to our attention, so it can be addressed.
Book Week is coming up next week, Wednesday, 23 August. Please stay to watch the parade at 9 am.
In Week 8, teaching staff will be appreciating the work of our non-teaching staff, by providing lunch. Mrs Enks, Carey, Philp, Caroll, Gallagher and Nichols, and Mr Maller and Rowland are essential to the success of our school and students. These staff go well beyond their roles and responsibiilties to provide varied experiences and resources for our school and students. They are a tremendous support to teaching staff. Please give them a shout-out.
The Harlin SS Bush Dance is fast approaching and is going to be a great night. The P&C have taken on the task of the bbq and you will find an order form in your child's bag this week. You can assist the P&C by pre-ordering and paying. Students will demonstrate 6 dances and after each one, will get you or a family member up to teach you, and repeat the dance. Gather your family and friends and bring them along. A supper will finish the evening, where we will have time to have a chat before packing up and heading home. The following day is the pupil free day.
We hope to see our "Outdoor Learning Area' take shape soon. The double shed will be next to the current big grounds shed, and will have a awning to provide a shaded area for students to continue work in the permaculture garden. The bus shelter from the front of the school will move near the permaculture garden, and provide a lock up for tools and supplies. Thanks to the Somerset Council for making the bus shelter available.
Mr Johnathan Druce is our new School Supervisor and replaces Reid Thompson. Johnathan will be visiting on our Book Week parade day. Please say hello.
As always, please stay up to date with our date claimers below.
Yours sincerely
Jo McCormick
Principal and class teacher.

Prep - 2 News Mrs Packenham
This week we welcome Miss Mel, our new teacher aide, to our class. Thank you for diving straight in and supporting our students! Miss Mel will be working in the Prep-2 room every Wednesday and Friday.
This fortnight the Prep-2s have been learning about measurement during Maths lessons. So far, they have estimated and measured the length and area of various items inside and outside the classroom.
In HASS lessons, students have been learning about constructed, managed and natural features. The Year 1s and 2s identified examples of these features from the Transport Incursion.
In Science, students continued to learn about light and sound sources. The Prep students also explored different types of movements and investigated why some objects roll, slide or spin.
Year 3-6 News Ms Fisher
In the senior room, our 5s and 6s have been investigating measurement in Maths. Students have measured garden beds and boxes in the quest to calculate perimeter, area and volume. They’ve also tackled some pretty tricky problems around measurement!
Our 3s and 4s have continued their study of forces in Science. They wrangled variables – changing one, measuring one, and keeping the rest the same – to investigate how gravity affects a marble. Students have also explored another invisible force – magnetism!
Students have been working collaboratively to revise their draft paragraphs. They have been looking for ways to improve their working by using fewer words, more precise words and checking that the evidence in their paragraphs matches the topic sentence.
Instrumental - Mr Adam Smith
“Our Instrumental Music students are outstanding at remembering to have their stuff for every Instrumental Music lesson and rehearsal. Our sticker charts are almost full. On Thursday September 14 at 12:30 in the Toogoolawah State School under cover area, our band is joining in with Toogoolawah SHS band, Linville State School band and Toogoolawah State School band to make one mega-band of 85 kids. The performances will begin with Toogoolawah SHS and have a big finale with all 85 kids performing our new song “Marching Drum” and our classic “I Like Jazz”. This may well be the largest band ever seen in our wider community and all of them kids. Don’t miss this event. All parents and community members are welcome.
Thanks
Mr Philp for fixing the wheels of the broken John Deere trucks.
